History of Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a complete or holistic system that integrates the mind, body and spirit.The knowledge now we have as Ayurveda is primarily derived from the classic heritage of India.Ayurveda was revealed in the pre-vedic India. Ancient Indian knowledge were recorded and retrieved as Vedas. They are having a lot of information and references on health and treatments. Many species of special herbs were described in Vedas. Atharva Veda is the main source of Ayurveda. The essence of Ayurveda is as vibrant as life. The advices on life it reveals are very inspirational.
For some centuries, the convention of Ayurveda was darkened because of the some natural and human disasters, also by the invasion of foreign cultures into India. The sacred texts were either destroyed or stolen. However there were many ‘Vaidya’s or doctors in India who managed to preserve some of the knowledge available in these Holy Scriptures. Divine plants that sustain long life and great wellbeing are presently being rediscovered.
Numerous eminent groups of Vaidyas, who are specialized in certain branches of Ayurveda, have started functioning again in India. Today there is a revival of the ancient culture and traditions inherent to Ayurveda. The knowledge of Ayurveda reached around the world through many scholars and travelers. The science thus have influenced indigenous systems of medicine in many countries.
